The vitalvoices speaker series serves as a forum to bring scholars, practitioners and UHD alumni to speak to students, faculty, alumni and community partners at UHD's College of Public Service (CPS).
On Thursday, October 10th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in C100 of the Commerce Street building, Dr. Julie Kaplow, the Chief of Psychology and Director of the Trauma and Grief Center at Texas Children's Hospital, will join us to speak about how research is now informing us of the many ways experiencing grief and trauma, especially at a young age, effects our lives and educational achievement.
Dr. Kaplow, will address this phenomenon and the often misunderstood effects of childhood trauma and grief. She will describe the activities taking place within the Texas Children's Trauma and Grief Center, including evidence based assessment and treatment of traumatized and grieving youth as well as research focusing on risk and protective factors in the context of trauma and loss.
